the office: the guy was just hanging brain. i mean, what's all the fuss?

last night’s super-sized episode, “Women’s Appreciation”, was one of the funniest episodes of the season. The story felt natural, the jokes weren’t forced, there was plenty of Michael Scott to go around, and little of the contrived Pam-Jim interactions that have been popular as of late.

The episode began with “Phallus” being flashed in the parking lot, followed by a cackle-worth few minutes of Michael suppressing his laughter and then sticking his finger out of his pants. The incident puts penis on Dwight’s brain, and causes him to turn on Assistant Deputy mode, removing the bananas from the kitchen and postering the neighborhood with flyers featuring a slightly more Mexican looking Dwight, courtesy of artist in residence Pam. Michael then takes the ladies out to the mall — after all, he know’s the crap out of women — where he dishes on his sex life with Jan… namely, that he’s basically date raped and tape-recorded to improve his form. The ladies of The Office encourage him to break-up with Jan, which he does over voicemail, only to have Boss Lady show up and listen to the voicemail while sitting in Michael’s office. Hands down the biggest laugh of the night was watching Michael’s face while the voicemail played, the definition of pure illness, while suggesting they get Italian or maybe “Chineeeee.”

Am I a sucker for penis humor? That’s like asking if one-eyed snakes wear helmets (they do). But this episode was so much more: Kelly dancing to Michael’s ring-tone, and again when he offers to buy her a brain; shrunken chestickles; Pam changing a tire; vampire brooms; Andy becoming likable; pap shmears; Creed; American Girl colonial clothing… there was just so much beauty, I almost couldn’t take it.

Finally, POOR JAN.

So, as usual, a few important announcements. First of all, you can actually dial the Sex Predator Hotline at 1-800-984-3672 (though it’s had a busy signal all morning!) And while NBC has no deleted scenes up right now, they’ll likely update them throughout the week. The NBC website has a kind of fun (if by fun you mean impossible) Office Quote Game, if you’re on the verge of passing out in your very own office! Check out all of the genius quotes over at officetally.
