wizard world 2007.

wow. it's been a really long, and fun week. let me tell you aboot it...

wednesday 8/8:

angela and i wake up bright and early, and get everthing in the car...and get on the road. we stopped in fremont, so i could pick up that week's comics, and then from there, we were off to chicago. we got there in under six hours, and without getting lost. a very big accomplishment. we check in, and settle in the the hotel room. we decided to drive around to find a restaraunt to eat at. we found a little italian restaraunt down the road. we both got pasta...cuz angela hates pizza, and i am not really a fan of chicago deep dish. i'm a newyork style boy. so it was good.

thursday 8/9:

i wake up real early, super excited for the convention. after i wake angela up, we decide to go to the lincoln park zoo. (it was the only free attraction, out of all the pamphlets i grabbed the night before.) it was about 20 minutes into the city. we get there, and before we went into the zoo, we decided to go into this gigantic atrium...full of exotic flowers. this was most likely angela's favorite part of our trip. after that, we walked into the zoo. it was actually really cool...for being free. once it started to get really hot in the mid afternoon, we decided to go back to the hotel. we laid around for a bit, and ate lunch. then, around 3...it was time to go to the convention. since our hotel was down the street from the convention, we had to take a shuttle there everyday...that really sucked, and i won't even get into it. but anyways, we get there. i'm always in awe when walking into wizard world. so big. so bright, loud, and exciting. these are my people. this is my paradise. the first day is usually spent wandering around the showroom floor, taking in everything. and that's what we did. thursday was not an official day, it was only for advanced ticket holders....open from 4-7. a crazy thing happened though. angela and i had entered a drawing for a collectors edition zelda guide. so after walking around for a bit, we hear angela's name over the speakers, telling her to come to the wizard booth. we both got really excited, thinking she had won the guide. as we are walking over there....ang realizes that she has lost her purse. we panic. we run around the showroom floor trying to find all the booths we went to, which is impossible. we can't find it. angela is on the vurge of tears. we get to the booth, and they have her purse. crazy. nothing was missing...nice to see that there are actually still honest people out there. but the crazy thing is...we go back to that booth to where the drawing was....and angela won the zelda guide. we both just stood there in shock. it was crazy. thursday night we went back into the city to go to 'second city.' the famous comedy club. before that we walked around trying to find some place to eat. we find this place called 'topo gigio'....it was really good authentic italian. everyone there was drinking. i guess it was one of those real nice goto to be seen places. lots of pictures of celebrites that have been there all over. and i walk in with a flash tshirt on. the dude asks us what we wanted from the whine list, and i asked him if they had pop, and he just looked at me and laughed. fucking asshole. after that we walked around, and then went to second city. 'ok' this time...we didn't get tickets for the mainstage, it was sold out, so we had to watch a bunch of newbies...but it was funny nonetheless. drove home real late, deperatly ready to go to sleep.

friday 8/10:

we get in alittle after the showroom opens. the first official day. i was pumped. the day was spent walking around, and going to panels. first i went and got some books signed by matt wagner. he's the best. after that we went into a marvel panel with the great mark millar. mark is a renouned comic writer from scotland. he is probably one of the most popular, if not the most popular writers in comics today. he wrote CIVIL WAR people. civil war. he had a signing that day, which i could not get into. and was pissed. the rest of the day was spent bartering for comics, talking to nerds, going to another marvel panel, and we ended the day with the wizard fan awards. it was a long, and good day at the show. angela and i got back to the hotel room, and ordered some really good chinese food from some local place. i got duck. it was good.

saturday 8/11:

we get to the convention early again. we basically walk around till about 11, when we attended a tv preview panel. it was cool, alot of talk on the nerdiest of nerdy tv shows. after that, there was a 'marvel civil war remembrance' panel, with the marvel guys, and mark millar. since i didn't get anything signed from mark the day prior, i made it my goal to get to one of his signings that day. i mean this is probably the best signing i can get this year...and they are saying that this is mark's last convention for the next few years...he's going back to scotland. so i basically became his nerd stalker. i found out he had a signing at like 2 that day. we got in line, but he was signing soooo slowly, we didn't make it, he was only signing for about an hour. but, he was signing at 5:30 later that day. i WAS NOT going to miss it. so at about 3, we decided to wait in line at the marvel booth. this is yet another time where i realized how great a girl angela is. she sat there, and let me walk around the show room for 2 and a half hours. it was wonderful...and it made me really happy. she must really love me. so i walked around while she sat there. ha. i got her a trade to read while she waited. i got to attend the marvel 'cup o' joe' panel...with editor and chief joe quesada, and had a nerdgasm when it was announced that alex ross is doing cap america in 2008. that's big news people.
anyways, 5:30 rolled around, and mark finally showed up. i got his whole run of 'wanted' comics signed, and civil war #1. it was fucking awesome. definatly the highlight of the entire show. after that i was pretty much good for the day. the happiest a little asian boy could ever be. we went back to the hotel, ordered room service, and watched the dog whisperer.

sunday 8/12:

sunday was pretty much spent walking around, trying to do anything that we hadn't got a chance to do before. we attended a couple panels, got a few books signed, and bought whatever we had been pondering about the whole weekend. we left at about 3, and got on the road at about 4. we didn't get home till about midnight, with a couple of stops along the way. it was a LONG ass drive, and i was glad to be home, until my mother started talking to me again. but i sucked it up and thanked her for letting me go on such a wonderful trip. this may be my last year at wizard world...and it was a great trip.

i got to do alot of fun crap. got some great deals on some hard to find comics. got to talk to alot of really cool dorks. go to meet alot of cool artists and writers, getting books signed. attending some really nerdy panels. got some rare bootleg dvds. and alot of cool free comic swag. good stuff. great times. i had alot of fun spending it with angela. and showing her 'my world, and my people.' it was freaking awesome.

oh and by the way, i took alot of great hilarious pictures, which i'm about to post on facebook, and myspace....so check em out.

later internet.

ps....one more week to bullshit around until school starts again. MEH.
