the movie is decent as far as summer 'blockbusters' go. is it gonna rack in the cash? ofcourse. every mom and pop is gonna drag their kiddies to a matinee of pirates before the summer is over. the depp returns as captain jack sparrow. his performance is just as entertaining as the movie prior. he slurs. he prances around. he wears eye shadow. kiera knightly and orlando bloom are good as well. davey jones comes into the franchise this time, with his underwater ship and his crew of seacreature/crab thingy/pirates. ofcourse the fx are wicked sweet...davey jones with his slimy tentacles, it's fun to just stare at davey jones' crew because they all look neat. i sit there wondering what is real? what is cgi? it all meshes so good one cannot tell. ofcourse brockheimer brings the big action with stunning action sequences.....which sadly are the best parts of the movie. the story could've been ALOT better. action sequences do not make a good movie....a good story does. ya, i know...bla bla bla. but it was decent for a sequel. i mean really...what sequels are better than the originals? godfather2? empire strikes back? well you can't count empire...it's part of a trilogy. which is sort of how i'm leaning towards dead man's chest. it's only ACT2. it was a decent followup....let's hope the finale is even better. disney was originally planning to release the 3rd pirates this christmas...but they were so overworked in post production for dead man's chest...that they're only half way done filming the last flick. so it prob won't be out till next summer. owell, i can wait. but the movie is worth my 5.50. plus i forgot to mention the little -twist- ending.... that was good. i won't spoil it for you who havn't seen it yet. so i guess that's my movie schpeel for this weekend. i wanted to also see richard linkalater's "a scanner darkly" ...but it's not playing anywhere near here, ofcourse. why do i always have to wait for dvd for all the indi movies....bejesus...
