mel brook's THE PRODUCERS a movie musical:

finally. i saw it. the movie i've been waiting to see ALL YEAR. THE PRODUCERS. created by the comedic genious mel brooks. this movie was A LONG TIME COMING. originally 'the producers' was mel brook's first film that he wrote/directed in 1968 starring zero mostel and gene wilder. then much later, brooks recreated the producers on broadway starring nathan lane and matthew broderick. and now, it's come full circle, as the producers is now a movie musical. i will never get tired of this story. i've seen in twice in ny on broadway, twice in ohio seeing the touring cast, and listened to the soundtrack numerous times, but it's still fresh every time i see it. mel brooks is such a genious...having made so many halarious movies, in my opinion the musical the producers is his greatest work to date. mel brook's style is in every word of the script, every character in this story, every lyric of every song. the producers is mel brooks. both times i saw the musical in ny, i did not see it starring lane and broderick....so i've been so pumped for this movie. these are the roles these two actors were BORN to play. lane plays max bialistock a hasbeen schmuck of a broadway producer. broderick plays a timid, and shy public accountant. lane and broderick play these parts wonderfully. they are as sharp and funny as any comedic duo from the past. so when leo bloom comes to do max bialistock's taxes...he comes across a little 'scheme'...under the right circumstances a producer could make more money with a FLOP then he could with a HIT. thus starts a crazy partnership of bialistock and bloom who u can't help but root for. bialistock and bloom then go about finding 1. the worst play ever written 2. the worst director that ever lived 3. raising two million dollars .... such comedic hijinx. the movie also stars will ferrel, as the nazi creator of the worst play ever written, 'springtime for hitler' ...ferrell being new to the scene couldn't of pulled it off any better. he can really sing. uma thurman plays 'ulla' the swedish actress/receptionist. being that uma thurman is in real life swedish...she filled the part really good. and she can really sing as well. coming back from broadway to reprise their roles are gary beach who plays 'roger debris' the worst director that ever lived and roger bart who plays his extremely gay common law assistant 'charmen gia' ....these two actors stole the show. brooks creates these two such over-the-top gay characters that you cannot help but laugh at everything they say. this movie was one of the best theatre-to-movie transfers ever. directer susan stroman was brought on...she was the director of the play on broadway. one thing i didn't like...they cut the song 'king of broadway' ....but anyhow made up for it with two new songs...'nothing like a show on broadway' and a very funny reprise of the song 'guetton tog hop clop' by ferrell. in such a dark and depressing world...and with all the shit that people have to put up with nowadays...i see no reason why movie musicals could not make a hugh comeback. very seldom does a movie make me so happy that tears come to my eyes...i dont think EVER...i just love this story. and the producers is just the movie to start it. this movie has all the glamor and glitz of those shiny, bright, happy movie-musicals of the past. be happy! sing! dance! and 'keep it gay'!! people that don't like musicals...can be sucked in by this movie. people that love musicals will be sucked in by this movie. i cannot wait till this comes out on dvd so i can just watch it overandover. i mean who wouldn't want to live in a world were you and everyone around you can burst into song at a moments notice where everyone miraculously knows everyone word and melody?! GO SEE THE PRODUCERS!

you know, i rather enjoy ranting on about movies.... i wonder what it would take to become a film critic.... a knowledge of movies?...check...
